You know, my mania is to do the machines some useful in their spare time. Until 2004 our main project was SETI@Home. This project has enough participants so I switched to an other interesting problem: Folding@Home. Folding@Home is an experimetial project to see how proteins can be fold. It's a giant problem of the biology, nearly all of the diseases are a results of the misfolding.

But, the F@H client has many licensed engine, one of them is THINKER. THINKER is a slow engine, but the main problem is it's nearly always halt on my Linux boxes. Tested systems are:

• Mandrake 9.2
• Mandrake 10.0
• Mandrake 10.1
• Fedora Core 2
• Fedora Core 3
• Fedora Core 4

With GROMACS, everything is OK.

I'm very sad, because F@H can be achived the Holy Grail of the Humankind ("who want's to be forever?"), but the THINKER, which is used often, in most of the cases are fault. It's a glibc problem said the developers, but I can't do anything for the success. :(

So I have to change. Can anyone suggest a well-designed problem, which is not for technical solutions (particle accelerators, climate prediction etc), which has direct results for curing? My
oppinion is that we couldn't help to cure cancer or alzheimer disease with money only but to help scientist as they can. If they needs the World's computing power, we have to give it them. Neighter HPC design nor climate prediction should have higher priorities than cure.
